Optimize conventional respiratory and/or circulatory support as needed.

Assess the vessel for any complications related to decannulation and treat accordingly.
C.
Consider surgical repair if the arterial vessel is involved.
D.
If decannulation was associated with prolonged cardiac arrest, implement post-resuscitation care and implement as per guidelines.
E.
Strictly monitor the patient.
F.
Document the procedure in the patient’s chart and include the reason for coming off and timing off.
G.
Report the procedure in the ELSO registry.
