If refractory cardiac arrest, consider ECPR temporarily or switching to the VA or V-VA ECMO configuration.

If the configuration conversion is not feasible or is deemed futile, interrupt life sustaining measures and assess the potential for donation after circulatory determination of death (DCD) organ donation and/or tissues/cornea donation.
C.
Inform the family or surrogates about the patient’s status.
D.
Report the event in detail.
E.
Report the ECMO complication on the ELSO Registry.
